Godfrey Tyler was interviewed on Canoe Fm radio about the news from Waverley Brook Farm.
He shared the story of our sabbatical and the journey we took in 2008. Traveling from Nova Scotia, down into the USA and around into Michigan we learned from farms with CSA and farmer markets as well as large farm gate stores for the summer loop. Then in the fall we went north through Ontario and Science north up to Winnipeg and around, visited farms along the way to the south through Wisconsin and Illinois. The children and Jean took a mission trip to Bahamas visiting friends as they prayed through the grieving process of people with cancer on a large side island of the Bahamas.
this winter the local food initiative is gaining momentum with a successful event hosted by the Haliburton County Farmers Association, Environment Haliburton (EH!), and Waverley Brook farm at the Flemming College Campus in Haliburton. The potluck meal and social gave the 50 participants opportunity to meet and make connections with local producers and advocates for local food. Mike Schiener of the Green party participated as well. The slides of the Tyler sabbatical and the short clip from "Real Dirt on Farmer John" were great discussion starters for the energized planning that followed. Action to be taken is a group planning some events for producers and consumers to enjoy the abundance of the Haliburton Highlands produce. More information give us a call or e-mail.
